Learning About the New Madrid Earthquake
Ms. Roxanne Dunn, Special Collections and Archives Librarian at Southeast Missouri State University, visited with the American History II students about using primary sources. In the Kent Library collection, there is a letter from 1812 that describes the aftermath of the New Madrid Earthquake on the McFerron property. The letter also discusses the War of 1812 and its impact on the McFerron family. Ms. Dunn provided some great insights to all the students and we had a great time learning via Google Hangouts!
Ms. Dunn introduced to the book "When the Mississippi Ran Backwards". There were some great stories from the book that really made everyone think about what was going on after the New Madrid Earthquake.
This was a great experience for everyone and we cannot wait to collaborate with Ms. Dunn again.
